I notice that you used an image of the Druedain from Lord of the Rings Online at 5:27. I remember well, playing through that section of the game which I thought was very well done and enjoyable. Who would have ever thought that THIS storyline would be covered in depth in a video game? LOTRO is very special and I always love watching your videos which confirm the deep love and caring that goes into every part of it.

I always got the impression that Tom was simply so far removed from the fate of men and elves that the ring would have no meaning to him. Either he is from outside and before the existence of Middle Earth, or he is tied to the world itself and not it's inhabitants. Either way the result is the same. He would not safeguard the ring because the fate of the ring and it's bearers is of no consequence to him. It would be like asking an Orca to safeguard a holy relic of the Catholic Church. Could it? Probably. Would it? Probably not.

Request from a long time Tolkien fan. Have you considered doing a review of “The Last Ringbearer” by Kiril Yeskov. This is a parallel story, one could say fan fiction, has been translated from the original Russian into English. The story is set in Middle Earth during the war of the ring, but from the point of view of the orcs ‘Orocuens’. Yeskov lived in Soviet times and knew well the power of propaganda, in this telling the Mordorians are experimenting with democracy and technology, while the Elves are protecting their feudal system via a trade war. If you read nothing else, the political synopsis chapter is a fantastic redux of this alternative reality. You will never think of orcs in the same way … and connects in a way to Tolkien’s scene with Shagrat and Gorbag.
